How scoring works in Hearts
Hearts is a trick-taking card game where players try to AVOID winning tricks containing hearts (1 point each) or the queen of spades (13 points). The first player to reach 100 points loses; lowest total wins. Shooting the moon — taking all hearts AND the queen of spades in one hand — gives every OTHER player 26 points instead. Each hand is one row on the scorecard; the running total per player is summed at the top. Lowest total wins.

Hearts scorecard — common questions
What does 'shooting the moon' mean in Hearts?+
If one player takes ALL the hearts (all 13) AND the Queen of Spades in a single hand, they 'shoot the moon' — instead of taking 26 points for themselves, they get 0 and every other player gets 26 added to their score. It's a high-risk move usually attempted when you realize mid-hand that you might end up with most of the hearts anyway.
Why does the lowest total win in Hearts?+
Hearts is a 'avoid points' game — taking tricks with hearts (1 point each) or the Queen of Spades (13 points) earns you score, and you want to avoid them. The first player to reach 100 ends the game; whoever has the LOWEST total at that moment wins. Most home tables count down from 100 instead.
Does the calculator track shoot-the-moon automatically?+
No — shoot-the-moon is a strategic decision the player declares, not a mechanical scoring rule. Enter the resulting score per player (the shooter gets 0, everyone else gets +26). The calculator just adds up what you enter.
Is it really free? Do I need to sign up?+
Yes, free, no signup. The scorecard runs entirely in your browser — no account, no app to install, no tile data sent anywhere. Ads on the page keep the site running.
How do I share the scorecard with my table?+
Tap the QR code button at the top of any scorecard. Everyone scans it with their phone camera and gets a live view of the same scorecard — they can watch the leaderboard update in real time as you tap.
Do scores save if I close the tab?+
Yes — the in-progress scorecard is saved automatically in your browser. Open the same scorecard URL on the same device and your scores will still be there. To clear, tap Reset.
Does it work on mobile?+
Yes — every scorecard is built phone-first. Big tap targets, big numbers, designed to be passed around the table. Bookmark to your home screen for one-tap access.
Can I undo a tap?+
Yes — every scorecard has an Undo button at the top. It rolls back the last 20 score changes. The Reset button starts the whole game over.
What if my game isn't listed?+
Use the Any Board Game generic scorecard — it gives you flexible round columns and editable labels so you can score basically any round-based game. If you want a specific game added, the AI Prompts Library link in the footer has a feedback form.
