How scoring works in Skyjo

Skyjo is a number-card game played over multiple rounds. Each round, every player has a 3×4 grid of face-down cards. Players reveal and swap cards to lower their total. When one player reveals all 12 cards, the round ends. Every player adds up the values on their grid for that round. If the player who ended the round doesn't have the strict lowest sum, their score doubles for that round. The game continues until a player crosses 100 points — at which point the LOWEST cumulative total wins. Enter each round's total per player; the leaderboard tracks the running sum.

Rules sourced from Official Skyjo rulebook (Magilano).

Skyjo scorecard — common questions

What is the Skyjo penalty for ending a round without the lowest score?+

When you reveal all 12 of your cards to end the round, you'd better have the LOWEST sum among all players. If you don't, your score for that round is DOUBLED as a penalty. This is what makes 'should I end now?' the central tension of every round — you might be ahead, but doubling kills you if someone has a lower sum.

Can three matching cards in a column erase to zero?+

Yes — if all three cards in a single column have the same value, you remove the column from your grid entirely. The cards are discarded and they contribute 0 to your total. This is the main way to manage high-value cards: try to match them with other copies.

How long does a Skyjo game usually last?+

The game ends when a player crosses 100 points. With 3-4 players that's typically 8-12 rounds. The LOWEST cumulative total wins — Skyjo is a 'lowest score' game like Hearts.

Why is Skyjo so popular with families?+

It's the rare game that scales smoothly from 2 to 8 players, has 15-minute rounds, and the rules fit on a single card. The combination of luck (which cards you draw) and decisions (when to end the round, when to swap high cards) keeps both kids and adults engaged.

Is it really free? Do I need to sign up?+

Yes, free, no signup. The scorecard runs entirely in your browser — no account, no app to install, no tile data sent anywhere. Ads on the page keep the site running.

How do I share the scorecard with my table?+

Tap the QR code button at the top of any scorecard. Everyone scans it with their phone camera and gets a live view of the same scorecard — they can watch the leaderboard update in real time as you tap.

Do scores save if I close the tab?+

Yes — the in-progress scorecard is saved automatically in your browser. Open the same scorecard URL on the same device and your scores will still be there. To clear, tap Reset.

Does it work on mobile?+

Yes — every scorecard is built phone-first. Big tap targets, big numbers, designed to be passed around the table. Bookmark to your home screen for one-tap access.

Can I undo a tap?+

Yes — every scorecard has an Undo button at the top. It rolls back the last 20 score changes. The Reset button starts the whole game over.

What if my game isn't listed?+

Use the Any Board Game generic scorecard — it gives you flexible round columns and editable labels so you can score basically any round-based game. If you want a specific game added, the AI Prompts Library link in the footer has a feedback form.
